The Intersection of Building Science and Building Materials
October 20, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - October 21, 2020 @ 2:00 pm
Hear the process, methods, and material choices made for this unique high-performance home. Mike Merg of Merganhamar Designs is currently working on the completion of an air-tight, passive solar home in Southern Oregon utilizing “advanced framing” and Swedish platform framing. This home exemplifies best-practice air sealing on the interior and exterior of the building – essential for moisture, air- and vapor-control. The home also has a strong focus on indoor air quality and sustainability utilizing lumber milled on-site and non-toxic building materials. Second story subfloor is T&G 2×6 Spruce to eliminate off-gassing associated with typical subfloor options. Join us to get an intimate look into the air-sealing details on this project, as presented by 475 Account Manager in Portland, OR, Ian Nimmo and the design features from Mike Merg that contribute to this home’s sustainability, durability, healthy IAQ, and energy performance.
Join the Energy Cohort for a special session on Passive House for Affordable Housing Developers. This presentation will cover what’s different during design and construction, roles on the project team, conducting feasibility studies, and lessons learned from practice.
