SUMMARY:340+ Dixwell Avenue Hard Hat Tour: Mass Timber + Passive House: Setting A New Bar in Affordable Housing
DESCRIPTION:340+ Dixwell is a 69-unit apartment complex consisting of two structures on a single lot at the prominent intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Orchard Street. This development will offer “deeply affordable” apartments constructed with prefabricated mass timber panels. Combined with passive house design principles\, this construction method stands to lead the way for using mass timber to build healthy affordable housing with a renewable resource that also represents new opportunities for workforce development and training.  Highlights for the tour include: \n\nDesign principles of Mass Timber Construction being used in this affordable housing project and why mass timber was the best option\nBasic principles of Passive House Design and Construction in use\, including how using passive house in affordable housing is important and a great direction for the future\nHow to integrate mass timber construction with passive house design to give final occupants a more economical\, energy efficient\, and sustainable place to live\nSustainability benefits and harmonious integration of Mass Timber technology and Passive House design principles.\n\nTour guides are:\nPaul H. Selnau\, AIA\, CPHC©\, Vice President of Schadler Selnau Associates\nLaura Crowley of Schadler Selnau Associates\nAndrew Ruff\, Research Director at Gray Organschi Architecture \nTour A @ noon – 1:00\nTour B @ 1:00 – 2:00 \nLimited to twenty participants per tour and SPACES ARE FILLING UP. \nConnecticut Green Building Council graciously extends member pricing to CTPH members.\nEmail us if you are a CTPH member in good standing and did not receive instructions on 7/18.

SUMMARY:Solving Performance Demands Using Wood Fiber Insulation
DESCRIPTION:Wood fiber insulation is now being produced in America. Learn how wood fiber insulation can help provide high performance above grade insulation products to create wind-tight\, vapor-open assemblies offering stable\, long-term R-values\, improved temperature stability\, and robust sound protection. A review of current insulation available today and an introduction to wood fiber insulation as a readily available alterative solution. A deep dive into current code compliant assemblies with the introduction of wood fiber insulation and how it fits into the wall assembly to provide a vapor open alternative. Finishing the session by discussing the current state of building materials carbon emissions impact and how Life Cycle Analysis help reveal impact areas that need to be addressed. Carbon sequestration can help dramatically reduce carbon emissions and wood fiber insulation offers can help. \nFeaturing: Scott Johnston\, Senior Northeast Business Development Manager\, TimberHP\nApproved for 1 AIA HSW
