340+ Dixwell Avenue Hard Hat Tour: Mass Timber + Passive House: Setting A New Bar in Affordable Housing

August 10, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Event Navigation

340+ Dixwell is a 69-unit apartment complex consisting of two structures on a single lot at the prominent intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Orchard Street. This development will offer “deeply affordable” apartments constructed with prefabricated mass timber panels. Combined with passive house design principles, this construction method stands to lead the way for using mass timber to build healthy affordable housing with a renewable resource that also represents new opportunities for workforce development and training.  Highlights for the tour include:

  • Design principles of Mass Timber Construction being used in this affordable housing project and why mass timber was the best option
  • Basic principles of Passive House Design and Construction in use, including how using passive house in affordable housing is important and a great direction for the future
  • How to integrate mass timber construction with passive house design to give final occupants a more economical, energy efficient, and sustainable place to live
  • Sustainability benefits and harmonious integration of Mass Timber technology and Passive House design principles.
