Atlantic Coast Passive House | Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia
This is a modern-style bungalow with a walkout basement located on a beautiful oceanfront property in Indian Harbour, designed to meet the Passive House standard.
The clients intend for this home to be their “forever” home and, as such, aging in Place technologies were included, such as roll in custom shower in master ensuite, wider hallways and doorways as well as accessible plumbing fixtures.

This historic home in Oak Park was in need of updating, with deferred maintenance inside and out requiring extensive work. This created an opportunity to rethink the house for a modern family in the 21st century, with an updated plan, a strong connection to the yard from the kitchen and new mudroom, covered patio, and flexible rooms for work-at-home, gym, or guest functions. The insulation and mechanical systems were upgraded to Phius levels, and a solar PV array added to meet annual net zero energy performance. With minimal upfront energy expenditure, the home’s operational carbon was reduced by 100%, and the house is a delightful place for the young family to grow into. #phius #passivehouse #decarbonization #deepenergyretrofit

Prior to the installation of the air barrier we will alert all subcontractors of its vulnerability. Almost all trades have some contact with the air barrier and it is important to maintain its continuity. We make sure that everyone knows that if the air barrier is breached to report it immediately as it is often an easy fix - if left unreported the team wastes time and money later trying to find the air leakage.
